QuestionQUESTION: I've been having headaches now for about 4 weeks. It all started in the back of my head 4 weeks ago and has pretty much been still localized to that one spot and its also intermittent. Occasionally it spreads throughout the head. Today I went and had a ct scan of my head done, it was supposed to be with and without the contrast dye. I was to scared to get the contrast dye, because I have alot of anxiety and feared that it would hurt me, so I just had the regular ct done. If there is something wrong in my head would the ct without the dye beable to pick it up?
ANSWER: The best diagnostic studies are with the dye- if you are allergic to or think you may be allergic ask your physician - I cannot tell you - unfortunately, if the ct scan would pick it up - please discuss this with your doctor
The dye only takes a few minutes and it does give a more detailed view. Ask your dcotor to give you something for the anxiety prior to the test.
Thank you for writing and happy holidays.

QUESTION: thanks for you quick response. I did have a ct scan of my head WITH the dye about 2 years ago,and everything was normal, I'm a 22 yr old male. What is the likelihood of something changing that would be picked up on the scan with the dye?
AnswerMichael,
Your headaches could be migraines, or even related to your anxiety- things can change from day to day. Without sounding uncaring- you really need to discuss this with your physician- he needs to review all your symptoms- if any besides the headaches. Could be allergies, tension, something from a past injury. You are young and I am sure everything is ok- but I am telling you like I would tell my own children - when something is bothering you - make sure to have it checked out. The decision of the dye is strictly up to you and your physician.
