Understanding and Managing Chronic Sinus Infections in Teenagers

Hi!  THANK YOU thank you thank you for accepting my question.....I sincerely appreciate your help! My 15 year old daughter has had a history of SEVERE and recurring sinus infections.

Eighteen months ago, her choices were have sinus surgery (roto-rooter!?)  or  take a pneumonia
vaccine.

The theory was that the same germs that were causing her repeated sinus infections were
possibly cause by the same germs that cause
pneumonia.

Also, we weren't sure if it was just the same infection that kept returning or if it was NEW each time.  This went on, month after month, year after year (off & on--mostly ON!) since she had her very first severe sinus infection at age 5.

The vaccine worked!  It was a miracle!
For eighteen months.  Now, she has another
long term sinus infection.

She has been on BIAXIN for a week and is still sick.  She is better, but she sounds really nasal.
She IS NOT over this infection.

QUESTIONS:  HOW long can she take BIAXIN,
safely?  Another 7-10 or more days?
To make SURE this sinus infection is cleared up?

Next:  I am thinking about asking for a CT scan when she does stop taking the med to have proof it's cleared up.  What do you think about this?

Next:  Can she have ANOTHER pneumonia vaccine NOW, instead of waiting 8.5 more years?

I would LOVE and appreciate all information, up to and including an extensive amount.

QUESTIONS: HOW long can she take BIAXIN, safely??? Another 7-10 or more days? Yes, that would not be a problem but it might be better to switch to Ketec or Augmentin, even Bactrim for 6-8 weeks would be good.

You may want to improve her immune system by adding if OK with her doctor:
a Centrum Silver generic multivit 1/2 twice a day
High potency B-50 Complex twice a day
Vit C 1000mg twice a day
Omega 3 2000mg caps frozen twice a day
