Chest Pain at 25: Causes & Next Steps After Normal Tests
QuestionAs I mentioned in my subject line I am only 25 year old. However, I have been experiencing chest pain on and off for about a year now. It feels deep and radiates from my left chest area under my arm and to my left shoulder blade. It sometimes burns or feels tingly. What could this be? I have had xray, ekg, and they all are normal. What next?
AnswerHi Sarah,
Chest pain in a young woman rarely indicates heart disease. It may be related to ribs or rib muscles and nerves. Lung involvement is a possible but unlikely cause. It is also possible that this is anxiety related. Unfortunately, without an exam and a detailed history, this is only my best guess.
