Understanding Recurring Chest Pain: Causes & When to Worry

Question
For 10 years now, I regularly get chest pain.It happens every day or two for a week or so and then stops.Until recently, it started in my jaw, then down to my chest and is very painfull. The first time it happened, 10 years ago,I was taken to hospital and given a clean bill of health.I was told it could be heartburn, which I was relieved about. Now the pain is just in my chest, not neck or jaw and happens at night waking me up.
Should I be concerned or is it still heartburn?
It does usually happen after having alcahol or fruit.

Answer
You need to discuss this with your physician and maybe have an upper endoscopy to see if you have some type of gastritis.  Alcohol and fuirt sometimes cause an acid type reaction and this may be a sort of heartburn or irritation within your esophagus .  Please make sure you pursue the cause.  Too many times things such as this are passed over and there may be a very simple solution.

I am not a physician so I cannot recommend any medications
