Neck and Upper Back Pain: Causes, Relief, and Potential Connections

Question
i have a burning sensation in the back of my neck and between my shloders.i had a m.r.i around 5 years ago and was told i had a pertruding disc in my lower back. this however rarely gives me a problem. the pain at times is so intense i can hardley bare. i have never had any serious tramua in that area that i can recall . in 1992 i was hit by a railroad train... not seriousley just banged up a little . however thinking back it seems i have dealt with some kind of pain for many years now .so much so i don't feel like theres much quailty of life left...  what can be done with this i don't have any medical insurance of any kind. the things i enjoy in life i can no longer do . i love to paint, sew, crafts of all kinds . but any thing i do that i have to use both of my arms for very long is alful pain. i also do not have alot of sholder pain i do at times and sometimes numbness in my fingers. but for leg pain i do i cant drive for very long periods of time my right leg aches. thank you

Answer
Hi Rhonda and thanks for writing,

Obviously I can not guess a diagnosis over the Internet and only an examination by a physician can tell you what's really going on. If the problem is that serious that it's interferring with your quality of life, then it's worth seeing a doctor about it - even if you have to go through emergency for untolerbale chronic pain.

It sounds like you have an alignment problem which is causing nerve pain and as long as you keep aggrevating it, it will continue to hurt and possibly get worse.

You would probably benefit from seeing a Chiropractor as well who could measure your alignment and make some treatment suggestions.

Sorry I can't be more help, I do wish you all the best,

Margot
