Levothyroxine Dosage Adjustments: Common Practices & Considerations

Question
Hello Doctor,

My father has been taking levothyroxine (generic) for a number of years; I believe his dosage was .125. After a blood test several months ago, his CRNP changed his dosage by giving him .137 and telling him to take it only 6 days a week, skipping Sundays. I realize she's trying to find some middle ground between .125 and .137, but we were under the impression that this thyroid med had to be taken every day. Is this a common thing, to prescribe a higher dosage and have the patient skip a day? Will this have any adverse affect on my father?

Thank you very much for your time; I appreciate it.

Answer
you can do it this way.... it just isn't worth that trouble tho.... we have so many doses of synthroid that you can always find a dose that works.  And they are getting too picky.... 10% change in thyroid doesn't matter.  So I don't know what exactly the CRNP is thinking.   BTW.... the 6 days of synthroid 137 is less total medicine than the 7 days of .125.
