QuestionI have a multi nodular thyroid with some calcification (the largest nodule is 9mm). My blood tests have all come back "with in normal range" right from the start (3 years ago). Surgery has been suggested several times. I'm trying to locate a surgical specialist that has worked with singers. In the mean time, I'm curious about something and can not seem to get answers from any of my doctors (my GP, endocrinologist (sp?), or NP).
Is it posible to suddenly lose all thyroid function? I take 100 micrograms of synthroid daily. But I have noticed a sudden weight gain (12 pounds in aprox. 4 weeks with no change in diet or activity), I'm cold when everyone else is hot, my skin is breaking out when it never had before (don't know if that's related), and I'm exhausted! I can't get hold of my endocrinologist....on vaca.? I'm also feeling really "full" in my throat and have some pain ans pressure (like someone had thier thumb on my windpipe).
At one point (last year), my doc. increased my synthroid dose, but I was having side effects, so she lowered it again right away.
Any thoughts would help. Thanx.
AnswerIs it posible to suddenly lose all thyroid function? Not really, you actually have Hashimoto's thyroiditis which will show on your TPO test which was probably not done, so request it and ask for more thyroid.

you actually have Hashimoto's thyroiditis which will show on your TPO test which was probably not done, so request it and ask for more thyroid
