Weight Loss Struggles & Thyroid Health: What to Do Next

Question
Karen
I am 45 years old,30 lbs overweight.I just had my thyroid checked and the Doc said it was OK.
My concern is I eat very little(less than 1500 cal./day) and do cardio 3 times a week for thirty minutes, but am not losing weight.Any thoughts?

Answer
Dear Barry,  Thyroid blood tests especiall the TSH blood test are not always effective in diagnosing a thyroid problem...  You need to see an Endocrinologist and get MANY thyroid blood tests done and properly analyzed inorder to be sure you do not have a thyroid problem...  GP's, internal medicine doctors, etc are just NOT qualified enough to test properly....  I would also suggest that you talk to the Endocrinologist about having a radioactive iodine up-take scan or at least an ultrasound of your thyroid to see if there are any nodules or cysts, since you can have these nodules or cysts and your blood work can still be "within normal range"....

thank you,   karen
