Question My husbund had a Pulmonary Embolism at the age of 44 and died of a saddle Emboli. He was seeing a choirpractor for about four weeks on symptoms of herniated disc , right leg pain,and pain shooting down the leg feeling leg is weak and is going out on him. He also had pain in right buttucks. Three days before he died he saw the choirpractor for more therapy, then ask for a x-ray on his back. Then on that friday he seen his own internal medicine doctor. His doctor did a lumbar x-ray and was found a mass 5mm in diameter in his l2 of back.His doctor gave him three new drugs for pain and spasms hydrocodone, naproxen , cyclobenzapine ,mixed with two blood pressure pills ,diltazam , triamterene , with a axiety pill called propanal ,alpralazam for sleep .He was fine until he started on the new drugs. He started taking these new drugs on friday had a choirpractor work on his back, and choirpractor used manipulation on his right arm , on friday and three days later he is dead. My husbund didnt have any clotting disorder from either side of his family, he had not had any surgery , no hospitalization before clot ,no broken bones , no imobileness , no long flight, no long travel . He had no health problems except blood pressure that was controlled .He was a non smoker ,he took asperin each day had not had any heart attacks or strokes , not but 20 lbs over weight . My husbund didnt appear to have had clot in the leg , had no edema or swelling in leg his swelling was in his right arm . Medical Examiner said the clot started in his back, and had been their for some time he was having severe pain in his back ,I wished the choirpractor would of done a mri and of refered him to a neorologist . I would love to have a answer what really caused the clot was it a interaction to new drugs mixed with his old medicine, or the manipulation that choirpractor used caused the clot or what other things could have caused a clot to go in arm then to his lung and kill him. The medical examiner said my husbund had no articulois plaque , heart great lungs great until he got the clot . Im at lost as to why my husbund got a clot Im thinking it was a drug interaction or choirpractor broke a blood vessel loose and caused a clot . All answers would surely be appreciated,so I can get peace in my life and go on and move forward .
AnswerI don't know if you are ever going to get a perfect answer... it sounds like he did have an autopsy and sometimes the medical examiner can see part of a clot that has been there a long time at the primary site. The primary site usually is the deep veins in the legs or the pelvis. I don't see a medicine listed above as causing it. His symptoms were so non-specific that I don't think I would have put "blood clot" anywhere on my list of diseases associated with his symptoms when going to the doctors.
Pulmonary emboli are always feared because they are hard to diagnose and are so deadly..... good luck with it...
