Understanding PCOS: Weight Loss, Acne & Fertility After IUI
QuestionI have recently been diagnosed with pcos through bouts with infertility and two failed iui's. I am currently on a break from fertility treatments and am trying to lose some weight. I am 32 yrs old am 5'7" and weigh 152lbs. I am a very active runner and have ran 5 half marathons in the last 3 years. No matter what I do, I can never seem to lose weight. Since i have stopped birth control pills, my horrible acne that I had as a teenager has come back. I had my thyroid checked last year and it was 4.4. I have never had my testerone level checked. Is it unreasonable to have my thyroid level rechecked and have my testosterone level checked? what about metformin? Is there anything else that i should have checked? Any input would be appreciated. Thank you.
Answeryou said thyroid level was 4.4 if that was your TSH.... I would consider you low.... the important number for thyroid is the TSH... that number should be 0.5 up to 1.5. If it is above that, it is abnormal despite what the ranges come back as.
I think it is perfectly reasonable to check testosterone also. Metformin can help with symptoms of PCOS too. With all that is going on, have you seen an endocrinologist or just working with a fertility OB GYN.... I would also ask for the endocrinologist evaluation. I hope this helps.
