Understanding Elevated Protein and Glucose Levels: What to Do Next

Question
DEAR MS SMITH,
MY HUSBAND AND I JUST HAD LABS DONE
HIS GLUCOSE WAS 128 IT WAS FASTING(NO HE NOT diabetic)
AND HIS PROTEIN WAS 1+ WHAT CAN WE DO TO CHANGE THESE #'S
DIABETES DOES NOT RUN IN HIS FAMILY BUT I'M AFRAID HE IS 63
AND HEADED IN THAT DIRECTION ANY ADVICE WOULD BE HELPFUL.

Answer
He needs to be carefully monitored by his doctor with repeated urine and blood sugar checks.  I hope he was issued a blood sugar monitor.  Now is not the time to go on an extreme diet, but if he is obese he may be able to slow the progression by losing weight.  He should ask his doctor for recommendations regarding foods and exercise.  Every 10 pounds lost has shown to have benefit to the metabolism.

Thanks for your question, the answer in a nutshell is that supervised dieting and exercise is the only thing he can do to change these numbers short of medication.
