Persistent Tailbone Pain After Childbirth: Causes & Concerns
QuestionI have had tailbone pain since I gave birth to my daughter...almost a year ago! I had x-rays done but have not had time to get back into the Dr. to go over them. I am curious what would be causing such prolonged pain since it seems to be uncommon to actually break your tailbone. Also, I want to try for another baby in a few months, is that a bad idea?
AnswerAlthough uncommon, it is certainly possible to injure your tailbone while giving birth, especially if you were pushing on your back. I would suggest getting back to your doctor soon and going over the x-rays with him./her.
It would probably be a good idea to find out what is causing your pain and hopefully get some pain relief before starting to try to get pregnant again. When you are pregnant again, I would strongly suggest that you see a chiropractor during your pregnancy, and that when you push during labor that you do NOT push on your back. Pushing on your side or in a more upright position should lessen the chance of you re-injuring your tailbone.
