Understanding Right-Side Abdominal Pain: Potential Liver Issues
QuestionHello Doctor,
I am a 23 year old male and have been experiencing what I think is liver pain for about 3 years now. The pain is under my ribcage on the right side if I am looking down at my stomach. This pain is usually noticed in the morning after going out drinking excessively. This all started when I went travelling for 5 months and was often drinking daily. I do not drink like I used to and hoped that this problem would get better as I changed my lifestyle. Twice I have quit drinking for a couple months at a time. I usually drink about one night a week but that often includes upwards of 10 beers. The pain always disappears after drinking some water which I always do. I am 6'1 and 195 lbs, eat healthy and have always been in pretty good shape. My friend I was travelling with had similar problems and his doctor told him there was an enzyme imbalance in his liver or something. I do not quite remember the complete details. I also seem to drink more than regular amounts of water and also urinate more than others. I get regular medical check ups and have been tested for diabetes among other things through blood and urine tests. Lately, I have tried taking milk thistle which has seemed to help a bit. Should I keep taking it? Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I feel that it is time to finally take this seriously. Thank you
AnswerSounds like the fatty liver syndrome from too many carbs and alcohol so may be getting ready for a liver transplant and 10 drugs for the rest of your life. Now is a good time to check into the hospital for detox and quit permanently
Milk thistle is for alcoholic liver disease but only temporarily
