QuestionHi - I had a medical abortion Aug 16th. Checkup on the 26th said all was expelled. Had sex early morning on the 27th - used a condom w spermicide and then went in a hot tub. He penetrated me 3 times without protection (Im not on the pill). No ejaculation. Took Plan B on 29 Aug. Got something that seemed to be my period but only lasted 2.5 days Sep 1-2. I am very frightened that I am pregnant again. Is this possible? How messed up is your period after medicinal abortion and Plan B? Could my period just have been that short?
AnswerHormones from your pregnancy stay in your body for up to 3-4 months after an abortion. So you may experience all sorts of pregnancy symptoms during this time, including:
- delayed, light or even NO periods.
- nausea similar to morning sickness.
- bloating and cramping.
- frequent urination.
- food cravings / aversions.
- fatigue.
- positive result on OTC pregnancy test.
Therefore, it is no cause for worry that you had only a light period. Your cycle will probably be irregular for up to six months. After my abortion, my cycle took 4 months to get back to regular, and I had morning sickness the whole time.
Of course, there is a slight chance that you are pregnant since no method of contraception is absolutely fail-safe. But I wouldn't worry if I were you.
Stay safe, continue to practice safe sex with adequate contraception, and don't worry too much. After all, stress can cause light or delayed periods, too!
