RU-486 at 21 Weeks Pregnancy: Risks and What to Do

Question
I took the ru486 pill yesterday, today i found out I am 21 weeks pregnant am I in danger?

Answer
Hello, tamaki,

It may not do anything. It is said it only works up until about 49 days, and any way you look at it, you are way beyond that. The only other possibility is that it will make you go into labor. If that is the case, you are in for a rough time, and you NEED medical care desperately.

You should go to a doctor who really cares about you! Anybody who would prescribe RU486 without checking to see how far along you are, doesn't. If you managed to get this medication somehow on your own, you are practicing medicine without a license, and the victim is yourself! And if you didn't get it from a reputable pharmacy, no telling what you REALLY got. And a reputable pharmacy wouldn't just sell it to you.

Here is an article about it:

21 weeks is very late for an abortion in any case. It gets downright dangerous at that point.

I'm wondering why you are seeking an abortion at this stage. Were you aware you were pregnant much before this? Or did you not want to HAVE an abortion and thought if you waited, you might not have to have one? What is preventing you from consenting to have this baby? Are you having any needs that we might be able to meet, such as financial needs? Is the father trying to coerce you? Let us know what the story is. We can take it from there. But at this point, if you do have an abortion, either you will have to go through labor anyway when your body isn't ready for it, or if they decided to do a surgical abortion, there would be a question of sharp broken bones that could seriously injure you. Also, the abortion itself could hurt you severely.

Go to a doctor immediately and learn whether there has been any harm. I can't tell you that over the internet, and neither can anybody else. If the RU486 isn't doing anything, chances are your baby is OK. But please don't hurt yourself! Seriously! Anything you do at this point to harm your baby is very dangerous for you, too.

Please think seriously of adoption, if you don't feel you can raise this child. There are plenty of loving people out there, and you could keep in touch. If you are thinking you cannot possibly choose adoption, I would guess that you know you will love this child, and that your present situation and attitude are temporary. Abortion is forever. You can't take it back.

At this point, only a doctor can tell you for sure what is going on, and he has to see you in person. Please don't take any more chances.
