QuestionI had an abortion about 3 weeks ago and i was 6 weeks pregnant. my lower stomach is still a little swollen but during the abortion i heard a suction. Im still having bleeding too. Is it possible that the baby is still in there?
AnswerHello, Sheree,
They use a suction device to remove the baby. That's what you heard. As for bleeding, most women report little to no bleeding from a surgical abortion. You should have it checked out to make sure they didn't do any unusual injury (all abortions cause injury, but some are worse than others). You can also have the size of your stomach checked out. Unless you are exceptionally skinny, you shouldn't have had any swelling to begin with. At 6 weeks from your last menstrual period, the baby and sac are about the size of a person's thumb. At 6 weeks gestational age, the baby would be quite a bit larger, and you might be aware of the size at that point.
You didn't say whether you were 6 weeks from your last menstrual period, or from the possible conception date. Yes, sometimes they miss the baby, especially at 6 weeks LMP. Often, they won't do an abortion that early. If you had it 6 weeks after the probable conception date, then you would be in the range of when most abortions are done. I would consider it unlikely that you would be bleeding if they missed the baby, although they could have missed some parts, and then you would tend to bleed.
So I recommend you have the bleeding checked out.
Also, you need to be aware that your abortion can cause problems with a future pregnancy. It can cause extreme prematurity, which is a leading cause of birth defects, or miscarriage, or tubal pregnancy, or complications at birth. Be sure and let your doctor know when you are carrying a baby, so he can undertake appropriate treatments. If this was your first pregnancy especially, you are also at much greater risk of getting a particularly deadly form of breast cancer, so you should have regular thermograms. Do not get mammograms; they can spread cancer. You should make sure you have enough Vitamin D in your body. A supplement of Vitamin D3 of about 5000IU is recommended daily. You will need to have your blood tested to make sure you don't get too much. And I recommend Resveratrol.
Good luck. Please take care and stay safe. Don't have an abortion in the future. They are too dangerous, and you deserve better. Feel free to ask any additional questions that are on your mind, and let me know how you do.
