Post-Abortion Bleeding & Pain: What to Expect After an Abortion Procedure

hello my name is Claire, i have just turned 18 and i have recently undergone my first abortion. 5 days ago. The decision was very traumatic and difficult but now i feel my self again. Though i am worried as i experience normal period cramps and bleeding straight after my procedure and the bleeding seemed to subside and stop a day later. i have had no bleeding or cramping until the other afternoon (three days after procedure) the d/c was very dark dark brown with extremely painful abdominal pains (unbearable) i then passed a huge clot and started to bleed like a period the pain subsided again when i went to bed and started up again 5 in the afternoon yesterday (4days after procedure) again unbearable and i passed a clot still bleeding and the same has occurred today. I'm worried if the clotting and pain is normal. im very scared that this could effect the chances of when im ready to be a mother.

Hi Claire,

You might want to call the clinic where you had the abortion today as soon as possible. The huge clot worries me that maybe something has gone wrong. Did they give you an emergency # to call?
