Hi Ronnie,
Thanks for your question. I'm not a medical doctor so please check with your own physician. Also, you may go online to http://www.optionline.org to find out more information about procedures, etc. Or you may call the pregnancy center at 1-800-395-HELP to talk to a counselor for free. At 10 weeks after your last menstrual period, the most common abortion I know about is the suction curettage.
I've read about manual vacuum and machine vacuum methods. They seem similar in that you will be positioned on the table with your feet in the stirrups-you are laying on your back. A speculum will be inserted into your vagina. There may be an anesthetic put in your cervix. You may have to be dilated which involves putting an instrument into your cervix to open it. A tube will be pushed through the cervix and into the uterus. There will either be a machine or manually a syringe will be attached and used to suction the fetus out of the uterus. The uterus will contract as the fetus is removed and it may cause cramping. Some women also experience nausea, sweating or other symptoms. The tissue is examined to make sure all the parts have been removed. Sometimes a dilation and curettage (D&C) procedure is necessary if the first procedure does not remove all the fetus. D&C uses a sharp surgical instrument to empty the rest of the tissue from the uterus. Please email me so I can send you some more information. I have a lot of other links to share but space doesn't permit. You may reach me at DCHERYL51@yahoo.com and hope to hear from you soon. I also urge you to talk to others who have experienced abortion and/or an unplanned pregnancy. There are 2 groups in particular I recommend: http://www.voy.com/66018/ and http://groups.yahoo.com/group/unplanned_pregnancy_help/
Sincerely,
