UV Gel Nail Lifting: Causes, Prevention & What to Do

Question
Hi there I'm new to the world of UV gel nails - I've only had mine for 2 months, and chose a nail salon that was conveniently close to my home.  I painted my nails red after my last fill, and when I took the polish off a week later I noticed a dark patch in the center of my right middle finger.  I knew it wasn't a "good thing", so did an Internet search for the best nail salon in my city. I was not going back to the original salon.  I immediately headed out to the new salon and they  promptly and painlessly removed the base of the nail with a drill (they saved the tip).  They said the nail had lifted and a fungus had started to grow. Do I need to be concerned about this?  She refilled the nail and there is a wee bit of discoloration where the original gel nail had lifted, but she said it would simply grow out.
Also, when I went for my first fill to the original salon, I needed to have a nail completely replaced because it was lifting at the sides.  The technician took a nail tip with extremely pointy sides and slid it in between my nail and the gel nail and started to peel it away.  It hurt so much  I pulled my hand away.  Is this a normal was to remove a gel nail?
Thanks for your help.
Kelly

Answer
Hello Kelly,
I am sorry for your bad experience with Gels. Sometimes they do lift off if they are not applied properly. And if the nail is lifted its quite common for a mold or fungus to grow. Just because its a dark damp inclosed space and thats a perfect environment for fungus. Anyhow, that was handled perfect by removing the nail cleaning it out and it should just grow out from there.

As far a removing Gels or acrylics everybody has there own technique. Some use the drill, some use that nail tip, some use nippers. I agree with you it hurts very bad when the nail tip is shoved between your nail. All I can suggest is keep going to somewhere where they make you feel comfortable. And if you feel any pain you should absolutely let them know. Communication is key. So English SPeaking should be a number one priority.
