Why Are My Gel Nails Splitting or Lifting? Causes & Solutions

Question
QUESTION: My gel nails are splitting or lifting from the natural nail primarily on the top corners of the thumbnail and the pointer finger.
Why would this be happening?  My nail tech suggests that it just happens on some people after a lengthy period of having gel nails.  She says i just need to take a break from gel for a while.
what do you think?  Thanks in advance for the advice!

ANSWER: Usually lifting is caused by poor preparation of the natural nail prior to the application, by abuse of the nails or for extending the periods in between infills for too much. I don't see how taking a break can help. As long as the nail are properly infilled and if you care is the same as before this shouldn't be happening... Is she removing the lifted product on the infill? If there is any lifted product left underneath new product, the product will lift there too...

QUESTION: Thank you Susana... yes, she is removing all of the lifted product prior to filling.  I have wondered if it would help if she would 'wrap' the fill over the tip of the nail and a little way over the back side of the nail.  I thought that might seal the gel and the natural nail together.
If you have any further suggestions, that'd be great.
Thanks again.

Answer
Ususally the natural nail is "capped" (the product is used a bit over the free edge to grab the natural nail underneath, but is tehre isn't separating on the free edge this isn't the problem. Perhaps it is better to leave your nail tech to evaluate the problem and resolve it.
Sorry i couldn't be more helpful.
