Thank you for your response. My nail tech. has said that it is growth on the gel not my natural nail. She put some solution on it to kill the mold. I would like to think this is a one off situation. But, in investigating it another nail tech. told me that I need to have the gel nail removed and go to the doctor for treatment. What is your advice?
My nail tech. said that since it was on the gel, not my natural nail, it is OK. I have also checked, she is using clean files, nail utensils, etc. when doing my nails.
In terms of lifting, this happened close to the 3 weeks between appointments were up. All my other nails and appointments have been fine. Lifting is primarily at the stress points of the nail.
Help! Need some reassurance! Thank you!

Hi there,
I am 'newish' to gel hails. I have had them for approx. 5 months. I go for a 'fill' every 3 weeks. At my last fill 2 weeks ago, I had mold under one nail! I have never heard of this and am a bit freaked out. The nail tech. said that my nails seems more prone to lifting (although at another point she said the degree of lifting was normal). She said what happened was there was lifting, water entered the nail and caused the mold growth.
I am wondering if this is 'normal' or frequent to have mold under a gel nail or how often this happens. Is this caused by something I've done or is it due to poor quality of work. What should I do? Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Well what you are experiencing is not really but a bacterial growth under the gel, caused by a lifting problem. Howere this is a serious matter.
If you are caring for your nails at home like your nail tech explained you should then you shouldn't experience much lifting. However, if lifting accours you should repair it imediatly to avoid this problem. If you are experiecing lifting altho you are caring for you nails yoiu should point that out to your tech, because then the problem should be her application.
AnswerI don't think you need medical treatment for this sort of thing, your nail tech should be able to solve this. She will need to remove all the lifted product and then disinfect and re-apply. As I said earlier watch out for other lifting problems, have them fixed as soon as you notice them, and if these problems become too frequent consider going to another nail tech.
