QuestionI have a very thick..discolored big toe. It is absolutely hideous and I'm totally unsure what to do. I'm currently thinking of beginning the vinegar treatment, I keep reading about. Anyway my question is, my toe is thick and I'm very interested in possibly getting an acrylic nail put over it for the summer months. Is this dangerous? Or will it make it worse? I'm thinking of have the person who does my pedicure to cut the nail down and hopefully apply the acrylic nail, will this allow me to have the ever popular French Manicure? Any insight into this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help!!
AnswerWithout seeing your toenail, or getting any info from a podiatrist ( ALWAYS see a specialist for feet, most general practitioners blow off tootsies), I can't recommend you doing ANYTHING for this problem. If you have an infection in your toenail, it CAN spread to your OTHER toes, nails AND your skin, if left untreated. So SEE A PODIATRIST!
If you get an ok from your Dr., find a tech that is a master in what's called a "Custom Blended Manicure (pedicures do apply here)." It is a very thin layer of liquid and powder, as thin as polish. Different colors of powder can be blended together to create a camouflage for your discolored nail plate, and YES, the previously popular french "pedi" can be easily accomplished with this. Another benefit? The overlay will also provide you with a chip proof polish job that can last you a couple months ;)
Just an FYI- the french look is on it's way OUT! Summer hues are going back to solids, and gold shimmery shades are marching back in, as well as corals and classic red. :)
For a nice twist on a french, that will have you fashion forward on all your friends: Pick a super light shimmery gold for your tip, and a even lighter shimmery pink to go over it. Still goes with everything, and looks gorgeous with summer coppery skin OR those of us that opt for a high SPF ;)
