Toe Nail Problems: Solutions for Thick, Distorted, and Missing Nails

Question
Hi there!  I had my toe nails operated on years ago as a teenager and now I have one with a nail but an ugly thick distorted nail and the other with no nail at all but a very rough thick tough bed in it's place.  I just tried for the first time having tips put on them and the one where the ugly nail remained, is doing fine but of course the one where there is no nail is already getting loose.  What can I do for successful results on that toe as well as the other toe?  I am sick off having to wear closed toe shoes year round and being ashamed to even go to the pool or the beach.  Thanks so much for your help!  Oh, I live in the Knoxville, TN area in case you know of anyone you can refer me to that specializes in this kind of stuff.

Answer
Hi Tammy-

Honestly, there is not much you can do where there is no nail to build from the enhancement there will loosen. When there is some piece of nail this gives the enhancement something to use as a structure and adhere to. When there is nothing for it to "connect to" it will lift.I wish I had better news.

I had a client with the same issue and just could not justify spending the money constantly applying  her nail. SO I came up with an at home solution. I told her to make sure her toe was dry. Use Medical tape (the kind you buy in the drugstore)Cut a piece of it to look exactly like her other nail. Then Apply the tape press firmly to adhere. Next put a topcoat of clear on and let dry. Then polish with a color and then another topcoat. It is an inexpensive at home fix. This too does come off but its a great fix or inexpensive alternative.
Good Luck
