Gel Tips: How Long Can You Wear Them? | Nail Health & Longevity

Question
I'm a nail biter who's finally stopped biting after getting gel tips.  I get fills and new ones put on regularly.  I'd like to just keep getting gel tips forever, my hands look so nice now!  But my friends say I need to get them removed every few months and not have new ones put on to give my nails a "rest".  Is this true or can I keep getting tips?

Answer
Your friends no doubt believe they are giving you good, informed advice, but its just not so. :)

Your nails do not breathe or sweat, and do not actually need a "break" from enhancements.  They also should not be replaced regularly- a good tech practicing good rebalancing techniques makes it unnecessary to "put new ones on."  With good technique and high quality product, your nails are actually PRESERVED and PROTECTED. ;)

Make sure you are going to a top notch tech with extensive training in his/her field- They know best how to keep your nails healthy and tough, instead of doing more harm to them.
