Gel Nails and Nail Health: Impact on Work & Activities

Question
Hey, I've been considering getting gel nails because of my work. working at lingerie store I'm constantly putting things on tricky hangers all day and the materials tear my nails and snag on everything. My mom thinks that after I'm done with them or "don't need them anymore" my natural nails will be finished. Is this true? Also I'm playing in a beach volleyball circuit could the nails be effected by the sand or have an effect on my game or technique? I wasn't planning on getting excessively long ones just a natural length so they look clean for work.
well anyways If you can answer any of these questions please get back to me!
Thanks!
Meg

Answer
HI Meg;

Gel Nails will not hurt your nails unless you do not care for them well or if the party whom does your enhancements does not put thtem on properly or does not provide you with proper care and instructions for prolonging them.
I have seen this a number of times.....  FROM UN-experienced Nail Tech's typically just getting out of school and not being assisted by another tech for proper technique is usually the issue or something similar!

The nails, gel, (acrylic are stronger)... WOULD have to be quite short for playing sports, volleyball for instance.. the palms of the hands are used but I have used my nails or finger pads to  bounce the ball and it hurts alot!!

Alot of damage can be casued if wearing enhancements while playing certain sports that require use of the hands. I do not recommend it at all. UNLESS thety are very short, menaing just over the finger pad.

In all honestly, when the customer, client, individual has enhancements done and playing sports, they do not really mix. I have seen sports related inguries , I strongly suggest EITHER keeping them active/short or just applying a gel overlay, without adding length or tips to your service.

The service is simple; the gel product is applied over the natural nail, and grows out with the nail, it aids as a protective layer, and helps make the nail strongand at the same time aids with growth, protection and also gives the nail a nice sparkle and a bit of color, depending on the product used.
I presonally use a colored gel, as then my clients do not have to worry about coloring thier nails, use a lighter shade,then you can apply darker over it and when you remove the darker color you still have the orgional light color gel product under. Your nails, will not chip, peel, nor break as easily, if at all, with the gel overlay.

I strongly recommend this for you, seemings how you are concerned about the health of your nails after the service and giveing the sports factor as well.

Please do reply when you read this. IF you are in Canada, New brunswick, I can personally service you and apply the gel.

Thank you for your post. I will reply if you wish to personally reply to me at nbspa@nb.sympatico.ca

Have yourself a terrific weekend!
