Question I recently moved to a *very* small university town in Northern Michigan, and had to go to a different 'salon' today. Because my old nails were lifting pretty badly, I had to have them soaked and filed off and then replaced with new acrylics with a gel coat... They look great, and felt fine initially. But about two hours later, my fingertips/ nail beds started to throb and burn.
I have been getting acrylics with a gel overlay on and off for about five years now, and never had a problem like this. I really have no way of taking the nails off until late tonight or tomorrow, as I have classes all day. Is there anything I can to do to stop this awful pain? Please help! I cannot even sleep!
AnswerOh sweetie, you need to get them OFF.
Was an electric file used ALOT on your natural nails when you had them removed and re-applied? When you have your nails worked on does an excessive amount of the liquid touch your skin?
It mostly sounds to me like your nails are VERY thinned and damaged from repeated heavy handed filing on your poor nails, and then your liquid and powder (AKA ACRYLIC) was applied too wet- if its too wet, it shrinks too much, causing a painful pressure, feeling like they will pop off by force. Add this to an acid based primer and you have a burn to go with it. It may seem like this happened all of the sudden, but after getting them done repeatedly for years, it can absolutely be something that's been brewing for a while now, and it's just now come to a head.
I wish I could tell you more, but the only thing I can suggest to do now is take 4 advil, soak your fingers in lidocaine, or get those suckers off!
BUT!!!! DO NOT REMOVE THEM BY FORCE! You need to go to a highly trained tech to remove them properly, without further damaging your already poorly treated nails! It doesn't sound like you have much nailplate as it is right now, picking or prying them off now will make them worse!
And in the future, going to a tech that can use better techniques will keep you from experiencing anything like this again.

Good luck sweetie, I am so sorry you are going through this- try not to let it ruin your view of having your hands enhanced! Anytime you have damage, its more often than not the fault of the tech, and they don't even KNOW it.
Keep me posted...
