QuestionI have had acrylic nails for the past 5-6 months. Should I have them removed and leave them off for a period of rest? If so, how long? I should mention that my manicurist thought we should remove them and start over so that they will be as thin as possible. It would be all done in the same visit.
AnswerAhh the age old "DO THEY BREATHE?" question.
If you are getting high quality nail services from an up to date-trained tech, then NO, you should not ever need to "remove and re-do."
If the nails are getting thick and unsightly, it's the tech that needs to train a bit more- there is no need for the nails to get thick if they are rebalanced properly, always tapering the edges and sidewalls of the nail, and keeping the bulk in the center, or "apex" of the nail. It's silly to get charged for a removal, and then a brand new set, when proper rebalancing techniques would keep them looking brand new, all of the time. :)
A tech merely "filling" the nails every 2-3 weeks is simply adding more product, and not paying attention to the overall shape of the nail, as well as the balance of the enhancement- and then it becomes top heavy, bottom heavy, just HEAVY.
I might shop around for a new tech if it were me... Remember that you get exactly what you pay for, and you should ALWAYS demand what you want. It's your hands and your wallet at stake!
Thanks for your question.. ;)
