QuestionHi Victoria,
Can you please tell me what brand of acetone works the best to remove my nails? I normally remove them since I am so scared to have my nail place remove them (they use the e-file/dremmel)and they just kill my nails. I've seen others cringe having their nails removed. My nails aren't the best anyways, but I like to keep what's left of them. After reading everything regarding the MMA, I'm a bit nervous. The place I go to have the powders in glass containers with no names so I am beginning to wonder what they are using on me. From now on, I am definitely going to make my appts at actual salons/spas and spend the extra money. I have also requested this place to put gels on me and they refused each time - and that they only do gel on natural nails that are longer than what I have. Hmmmm, is that a sign or what?
Thanks so much!
Katie
AnswerDear Katie,
Most brands of acetone found in the department store are much the same.
What might work better for you is this:
http://www.kissusa.com/prosystem/remover.html OR similar made by 'Broadway' (a sister company).
Keep them in for 20minutes. Don't take them out to look at them, for each time you do, you will slow down the process. After 20min, use an orange wood stick to scrape off GENTLY any residue stuck on your nails.
IF this doesn't work within 20minutes, I suspect that you do have MMA. In that case, in between soaks, use a coarse file to thin them.
HOWEVER, I would be concerned with over-filing if you're unsure where to stop. I wouldn't want you to file your natural nail.
BETTER still, seek out a qualified technician and ask her to fill over them and let the cheap acrylic grow out. that way you avoid harming your natural nails any further.
I have sculpted UV Gel over all different lengths of nails.
It doesn't matter how short. If someone can't do it, they don't have the training.
If you are in the states, see here to look for a good tech.
beautytech.com. It's a forum of talented and skilled technicians and you can find one in your area.
Electric files/dremels should NEVER touch the natural nail. They are only meant to shape the product (gel or acrylic).
Best of luck
