QuestionI have had acrylic nails for 10 years. I just had the salon soak them off with Acetone. They are brittle and my fingertips are sore. I keep filing them back to the ends of my fingers and am currently applying a product they sold me called "Rejuvacote" (a nail growth system). I want to leave the acrylics off. How can I best restore my natural nails? Also, are there any health worries about any of this?
AnswerHI There~
Thank you for your post and for supporting Nail Tech's and the Aesthetic's Industry in general for the past 10 years.
I would imagine your nail's and nail bed(s) are very sore and sensative to say the least... Also your nail plate is likely very thin, this is why the sensitivity and the chemiclas from the enhancements cause this.
THE best method to protect your nails after having acrylics on this amount of time is to have the spa/salon whom always serviced you and did your enhancements apply what is referred to as an "OVERLAY" this is sort of like an enhencement service, no filing of the nail, no tips, just gel, not traditional liquid and powder or a.k.a. Acrylic.. gels are not as harsh on your nails.
The gel overlay without any tips applied etc. This service/product will almost give you a thicker nail plate and will protect your nail plate and bed and give you a shine as well. OR apply a base coat and top coat always until your not feel sensitive any longer.
Do get treatments (TX) and look after your nails, use a very soft file, file in one direction and wear gloves when working around chemical's and water as well.
These both are harsh on nail's that are trying to recover from chemical damage. Water obviousally is not near as harsh but right now, water wil make your nails softer and try not to emmerse your hands in too much water at least until your nails are feeling better.
Use a very good base coat ( not as much chemicals in base caots as clear/colored polish or top coats.., this is the portion of the nail that needs tx and nourishment right now and protection is with either the top coat, sealer or overlay.
The overlay will grow out with your nails, no need to remove it at all.... but you can always add to it when its growing out from the cuticle area. It looks natual and would be best if you waited a month before getting any overlay services, give your nail's some time to treat and restore themselves.~
As for complications, health issues I really cannot think of anything too much off hand. Sometimes when we wear these enhancements too long and our natural plate frows back you might notice (not saying this applies to you) but the nail plate is seperated from the nail bed, this can be an issue.... not dangerous just not esthetically pleasing.
DO let me know if there is anything else I can do for you and please fel free to comminicate with me via email, if you run into anything you wish to inquire about or whatnot.
Take care Melissa. Thank you again for your post~ If you have time please rate my reply.
