Acrylic Nails: When to Replace Tips & Essential Terminology

Question
hello..I have been doing my own acrylics for about a month now and I was wondering, the fake tips that you put on and overlay with acrylic...do you have to remove these every so often or let them grow out naturally?? Thanks in advance!!

Answer
OK, since you are doing them at home lets have a quick vocabulary lesson ;)

Fake tips are just Tips.  Good tips are made from ABS plastic, and are quite strong.  Acrylic should be referred to as "Liquid and Powder" as ALL nail enhancements ARE ACRYLIC.  Yep.  They are all in the same chemical family.  Fiberglass resin, Gel, all of em.

And no, as long as the nails are done correctly, with perfect prep, smooth application, and spot on rebalancing every 2-3 weeks, the nails should always look brand new, and never need replacing.  Nails do not have lungs to breathe, and they don't sweat.  If you are filing them aggressively or the enhancements are yellowing from using low quality product, then you might want to give your natural nails a break, and then go either go to beauty school and learn all the ins and outs of quality nail application, product chemistry, and anatomy, or find an outstanding tech to do it for you.

Good luck. :)
