QuestionHello,
I have an old gold ring that has on the inside the following: SH a crown 22 an anchor h
What do you think this represents?
Thanks
AnswerGreetings,
The marks on your ring refer to the maker and where it was assayed.
SH would be the makers mark
The crown and 22 mean that it is 22 Karat gold
Anchor means that the assay office was Birmingham - this anchor should be lying on its side with the bottom facing the crown
and the h refers to the year of making, and if you're suggesting it as a lower case h then the most recent year would be 1907 and before that 1805 - it all deepends upon the typeface of the letter.
Hope this is of assistance, P
