Selling a GIA Certified 0.32ct VVS1 Round Brilliant Engagement Ring

Question
QUESTION: Hi,

My name is Anthony.  A few months ago I broke up with my fiance of 4 years and just this last week got the ring back from her.  I am looking to sell it but don't know exactly how much I should be looking to get for it.  I have the GIA certification for it.  It is a round brilliant cut (measurements 4.39-4.43 x 2.74 mm) with a 0.32 carat weight.  As for its finish, its polish is good and symmetry is very good.  Its clarity is a VVS1 with a chip listed as a characteristic.  Its color grade is a G.  I have it in a white gold setting (though for the life of me I can't remember what carat gold the ring itself is).  It was custom made by a friend of mine some years ago who used to do jewelry.  I'm hoping to get at least a thousand for it so I can have a bit more money for graduate school.  Any idea exactly how much I should be able to get for it?  Thanks a ton.

ANSWER: Hi Anthony,
You certainly have an advantage. A GIA Certificate is a big point in selling a diamond.
Before I know what to tell you I would need to know more about the ring such as Penny weight, Quality of workmanship. Type of construction. Detail of carving, labor and time involved to create it, Is it designed by a certain company.Fineness of the gold.
You have: "Its clarity is a VVS1 with a chip listed as a characteristic" That would be important to look at.
I would have to look it over carefully to know what to tell you.

QUESTION: I don't know how much of the information taht you want that I can give you unfortunately.  Here is everything that is on the GIA card that I have with it:
July 17, 2003
Laser Inscription Registry:  GIA 12707056
Shape and Cutting Style:  Round Brilliant
 Measurements:  4.39-4.42 x 2.74 mm
 Weight:  0.32 Carats
Proportions:
 Depth:  62.1 %
 Table:  57 %
 Girdle:  Thin to Medium, Faceted
 Culet:  None
 Finish:
   Polish:  Good
   Symmetry:  Very Good
Clarity Grade:  VVS1
 Characteristics:  Chip
Color Grade:  G
 Fluorescence:  None
Comments:  None

About the ring itself, I don't really remember that much about the setting.  If I remember right though, my friend had made it for me at cost and the diamond was about $900 and the setting was about $100.  He had told me that if I was to have bought this from a jewelry store, it would be in the $1500-$2000 range.
I'm hoping to sell it to a friend of a friend, but just want to make sure that I am not overcharging him / underselling myself, so I'm hoping to sell for maybe $1250-$1500.
Does that sound reasonable?
Thanks so much.

ANSWER: Anthony,

The GIA Information is fine. I would have to look at the setting before i would know the value. Also I would need to know the city that your located in and the country as well. The price of jewelry varies from place to place. 1250 - 1500 isn't bad however it might not be a bad idea to show the ring to an appraiser.

QUESTION: I konw this sounds probably like a dumb question, but what would my best bet be as far as seeing an appraiser?  Should I just go to a jewelery store and ask there?  I'm sorry if I'm bothering you with these questions - but thank you much for any help you can give me.  Oh, and if it makes any difference, I'm from San Antonio, TX in the US.  Thanks again.
