QuestionDear Les, stumbled upon your sight & am hoping you can give me some advice. After much investigations into diamonds, size, colour, clarity etc, my fiance and I set off to New York to buy the diamond for my engagement ring. The diamond is beautiful, it is a round brilliant cut 1.78 carat, colour H, clarity VS2, very good cut with a medium blue fluorescence. We had it set there and then for wearing home purposes, with 4 small chanel set diamonds either side. I always planned to have it reset when we got back, but that was last July and we still havent had it done. It does really need resetting as the claws are slightly bent and I dont think they coated the white gold so it is very dull now. We will probably re set in platinum. I am now looking for my wedding ring, as we get married in August. I had thought I would like a diamond band but when trying rings on it does made my finger look very "cluttered" as I have quite small fingers. I have now got an idea into my head, that as my engagement diamond needs resetting anyway, to have a combined engagement & wedding ring, so that I only wear one ring on my finger. Do you think it would work to reset my diamond into a band of platinum, maybe with a row of diamonds round the middle of the band. The whole ring could be quite wide as I wouldnt be trying to fit other rings on there as well. Do you know where I could find such a ring. I feel that I need to try similar rings on before getting someone to make the ring, in case I dont like it. Help....

Congratulations on your up coming wedding!! From you email it seems perhaps that the Michael B designs would satisfy what you are looking for, they have a matched diamond band with a matched wedding eng ring with diamonds all around the center diamond, also you can check out Tiffany.com, harrywinston.com, they are all over the internet....
once you find a style you think you may like, head out to your local jewelry store either in the mall or a ma pa type of store and try them on, today there are so many styles which look the same as these designer rings. Let me know which one is your favorite and I will let you know the actual cost and where you can have it made for the best price with the finest diamonds. Its important to try and match the same color of your diamond with the proportions of the diamonds which match your center this way it will blend nicely and the bling bling will be amazing!!! these types of rings usually lock in and do not need to be soldered together although you have that option so they dont move while on your finger.....you can always have them unsoldered if you elect not to wear your engagement ring for whatever reason and just your wedding band on your left finger....
all the best,
Les
