Vintage Feuer & Vergold Octagon Brooch - Wear as Pin or Necklace

Question
This is an octagon-shaped brooch but with a small ring on
the backside to wear as a necklace as well as a pinback. My father was stationed in Germany after WW2 as a member of the Allied forces to reestablish the country. He was
given this pin by a German citizen with whom he became
friends. It is 2 3/8" across, marked Feuer and vergold on the back.  The design is almost "art-deco" type and raised and in the center is yet another design and raised.
I cannot find any resources to get me close to identifying
this piece.  Any information you can provide will be
extremely helpful and appreciated.  Thank you.

Answer
Hello Michele and thank you for your inquiry. The translaction of the words on the back of your item is "fire gold". I've not found any official marking for "fire gold" in any of my resources. It might be a good idea to have it tested for gold content. You may have a real prize ! Contact your local jeweler or a gemologist for testing. They will perform an acid test to determine gold content. You might need an estate appraiser to do more research on the design itself. Good luck !
