Identifying a Vintage Gold Signet Ring: P&S W18, Anchor & Diamond
QuestionI there, I have been given my great-grandmothers gold signet ring, from my grandmother. It is marked on inside P&S W18 (carats) and an Anchor then an italic looking small x. It is set with a sngle diamond in a shaped gold star setting at top, and 6 x very small pearl looking stones (about pin head size), three in each size angling left up to right either side of the main diamond. It is truly beautiful ring. Do you any idea of the origins of this ring? Thanks heaps
AnswerMello Melanie and thank you for your inquiry. Your ring sounds beautiful. The anchor mark makes me think that this ring is from England - the anchor is usually used as the Birmingham mark. It is very difficult to tell without actually seeing the mark. I suggest you check your local library or book store for Jackson's Hallmarks by Ian Pickford. You may be able to match up your hallmark to one of these. Below is another site that may be of some help to you. Just copy and paste the url into your browser address field and hit enter.
