Is Your 14K Gold Ring with Diamonds Real? Understanding Stampings

Question
I just bought a ring at a jewelry store and was told that it was a 14k ring with a .5tw diamond. when i read the inside of the ring it said "s14k" I also noticed there is a silver marking right beside the mounting. Is my ring real?

Answer
HI LATISHIA,

IF YOU BOUGHT A 14K YELLOW GOLD WITH DIAMONDS THEN IT IS MORE THAN LIKELY A 14K YELLOW GOLD RING WITH DIAMONDS. THE '14K' STAMP IS A LEGAL IDENTIFIER. THE 'S' IS JUST SOMETHING THE MAKER USES FOR MODEL OR STYLE. WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT A "SILVER MARKING RIGHT BESIDE THE MOUNTING"? WHAT DOES IT SAY AND DO YOU MEAN THE HEAD AND PRONGS THAT HOLD THE DIAMOND? IS THAT WHAT YOU ARE CALLING THE MOUNTING? I BELIEVE YOUR RING IS 'REAL', I THINK YOU SHOULD BE ASKING THE JEWELRY STORE THESE QUESTIONS.
