Question
Blue Diamonds
I have a question about blue diamonds. I notice that most blue diamonds seem to be a peacock blue to teal color. Note in the picture I have two blue diamonds the center stone and the one on the left is the same... and is what I will call a sapphire blue diamond and the one on the right is a teal blue diamond. Can you give me any information regarding the sapphire blue diamond? ... and note the center picture showing the cut... what kind of cut is that? The ocean blue stone is very dark blue unless you shine a camera flash at it. The teal blue diamond sparkles more under all lighting conditions. I can not find any information of the ocean blue diamond... and had to match it with a sapphire and diamond band... because most diamonds appear to be the teal blue.
I purchased the ocean blue diamond in a Tiffany & Co. platinum setting at auction as a Sapphire. I took it to a jeweler who told me it was a diamond. The serial number on the Tiffany & Co. platinum band is for a white diamond. So someone took out a $8950.00 .90 white diamond and replaced it with a blue one. Interested in the color and cut of these diamonds... see picture. thx. Eve
AnswerHi Eve,
Thank You for writing.
The diamonds need to be tested to answer your questions.
See if you can arrange to have the diamonds looked at by a Graduate Gemologist (GIA). Our offices are located throughout, NY, NJ, MA,& CT. Call us if you would like an appointment.
There is information on blue diamonds on the web and with the GIA Gem Trade Lab.
Thank You for writing Eve and write back once you have the results of the tests.
Sincerely,
Arthur DeMello GG (GIA)
