Hi,

Diamonds have really sharp facet junctions due to the hardness of the stone.  Softer stones can be not as sharp.  If you fog a diamond with your breath it vanishes instantly.  This is due to the fact diamonds will not get wet.  This fact is used in the recovery of diamonds on greased conveyor belts the diamonds stick where other stones wash off.

The also make electronic devices that test for diamonds due to there conductivity.  Then finaily you can do a refractometer test to check the refractive index unique to diamond.  Also diamonds can only be scratched by another diamond.  Ruby the next hardest will not scratch it but it will scratch the ruby.
