Repolishing Smoked Diamonds: Restoring Brilliance & Color

Question
Hello, I know you say in your bio that you deal with coloured stones mainly, but Im interested in the fact you say you repolish stones.

I have a ring with a diamond which has apparently been smoked - dont ask - long story!Unfortunately jeweller error.

Have you any experience of repolishing a smoked diamond and if yes - what has been your experience of how much of the stone you had to remove before the colour returned.

My stone is one of a pair and it would be very obvious if one stone was a different colour and size.
Thankyou very much for your time. Kate

Answer
Hi,

Yes I am aware of jewelers burning the surface of diamonds.  They are carbon after all.  However a diamond cutter would have to be employed to do this job.  I do know cutters in Los Angeles California.

I could put you in touch with them if you are unable to find someone.
