Question

Answer
I am sorry for rejecting the question the first time. My connection was going in and out and when out took an hour or a good nights sleep to get it back. I could not include a full answer and hope to get it to you.

I am not an expert on ring markings except for metal quality marks. I mention in my info with the question box that I do not try to research makers marks but this is a little different in that the marks are interestingly  different.

I suspect the 18 could be a designation for 18k gold. The other marks do sound a lot like British marks, depending on how the description is interpreted. The letters S.U.L. could likely be the makers mark.

You might want to check the sites below for a quick look at the sorts of marks in British jewelry. Some other countries have similar systems but use different characters and forms.

These are links to British hallmarks. Copy and Paste.

British hallmarks show quality, date, place of gold assay, etc. There are generally about 6 stamps.

I do hope this gets you in the right direction. To research markings on the net is not always fruitful and the best listings are at a good library, often files with books dealing with antiques. The librarian can direct you to the correct area to look for book with images of the markings.

If the marks are not British, I honestly do not recognize what they might be unless special markings the maker has applied.

I do hope this helps a bit.
