Understanding Your 750 Gold Ring: Hallmark & Quality

Question
My husband purchased a beautiful ring for me recently and I'd love more information on the peice.  Inside it has 750 and a heart symbol (sort of leaning to the right).  Is there any information you can give me on this peice.

Answer
G'day Shelli and many thanks for your query

The 750 is simply the International Hallmark for 18 carat gold being 750 parts per thousand out of pure 24 carat gold. It is about the best quality you can get without being too soft and wearing the more pure gold away. Tell your husband - Well Done!

Just make sure you do NOT wear the ring next to a HARDER gold ring (say 10K or 9k) as that will eventually wear the softer gold in the 18 carat away (many years though so don't panic!).

The Heart symbol is just a design or Makers mark used to identify the Style or Jewelry Store - much like stamping the inside with 'Tiffany' for example. It has no relevance to the value of the ring.

You might like to add this query to my blog at http://how2valuejewelry.com/ as other may have had a similar problem. Can't hurt anyway and who knows what answers you may get.

Hope this helps...
