Evaluating Your Great-Grandmother's Ring: Value & Stone Identification

Question
I have my great grandmas old ring and i want to know what its worth. it also has one purple gem in the middle and 2 smaller light greenish yellow ones on either side.

Answer
Hi Jessica,

I would suggest that you go to your local jeweler and have them look at it and tell you if you have a gold ring and what kind of stones you have.  I would weight the ring as well.  They could give you a fair estimate.  If you want to send me a good picture I could maybe tell you more myself.  Is it marked 10k or 14k or???? Or is it silver?  It may be plated.  This is what your jeweler would be able to tell you.  The purple stone is likely amethyst and the green ones peridot.

The value would depend on the size and color and what shape they are in.  Old rings tend to be very worn and need repolishing which is what I do a lot of for jewelers here and others around the country.

Good luck, hope this helps you a little bit.
