Identifying Your Great-Grandmother's Ring: Opal, Silver/White Gold & K&R Stamps
QuestionIn the year 2004 my great grandmother passed away; she had left me a ring behind and I'd love to know more about it please...
This ring has an Opal Stone set in the center and has diamond like stones circling around it... the ring itself appears to be of Silver or White Gold.
The stamps within the ring have an Anchor, a Lion and the Year Letter B...
Before the Anchor there is another stamp... I am sure it says K & R the R is a definate but the rest I am not sure about.
AnswerThank you for your inquiry. Sounds like you have a lovely ring. The marks on your ring indicate that it is British made in Birmingham, signified by the anchor mark which, when upright means silver and when it is on its side, the piece is gold. The Lion would be a sterling hallmark and the letter B year mark 1858. The K&R is probably the designer and I have not been able to locate this particular one. You might be able to find a book on British hallmarks at your local library or bookstore that may give more detailed information. You may also want to consider taking the ring to an estate jewelry appraiser for a more information and valuation. Hope this helps and good luck !
