Identifying Makers Marks on Vintage Rings: Seeking 'TRIDETE' Info

Question
My grandmother gave me a white gold ring with a very thin band and 4 small, but very nice diamons in individual mounts. it's a gorgeous ring. Her memory has gone and she has no idea who gave it to her. The stamp inside is a narrow diamond shape with a word inside it. It is very worn, but what I can see is "T", possibly an "R", 3 mystery letters, a "T", and an "E". It looks like it might say "TRIDETE". but I have seached this and come up with nothing. Any ideas???

Answer
Hello Kimberly and thank you for your inquiry. The only thing similar I can come up with for those letters would be "Trifari" and that is a costume jewelry company founded in 1924. They did not, however, make any gold jewelry that I am aware of. They did make some sterling with gold wash pieces. If your ring is genuine gold, it should have a karat mark inside i.e. 14K and perhaps a hallmark. Here is a site that can show you some of the Trifari marks.  Just copy and paste it into your browser address field and hit enter:

If you can find no matches or other markings, you might want to take your ring to a jeweler and have them do a test to find out what the metal was used. They may also be able to shed some light on the other marking. Sorry I couldn't provide you any other information but good luck and enjoy your ring !
