Tahitian Pearl Ring Sizing & Quality Concerns: A Customer Review

Question
I took a new Tahitian Pearl ring to have sized.  After a long discussion and inspection with the jeweler he suggested I add a half shank to the band and the total was over $200.  He said it was a very nice pearl in 14K Y-gold with two diamond bars on the sides. I paid $350. for the ring,(50% off).  When I picked it up there were small jabs and one very noticeable elongated one.  I saw nothing before and there were no flaws noted on the detailed form.  He says there is no way he could have damaged my pearl.  It had never been worn. I would have questioned him about them when he was evaluating the ring first. All marks are at the same level around the pearl towards the bottom half, with the bottom drilled hole centered.  He tried to reset the pearl to show me the bars had hidden the marks but failed. He said all pearls have those marks. What do you think?

Answer
Hi Susan,

I would need to do a microscope examination on the marks to determine whether they are a naturaly ocurring imperfection or one created by man.
