Hi - I needed to re size a pearl ring and a day or two later, the pearl fell out.  Is it possible that the re-sizing loosened the setting?

yes, once you cut the shank to size a ring it will change the integrity of the ring and stones, pearls, other items which are set can and do fall out. The jeweler working on the item must make sure that all the stones are tight prior to polishing and releasing the ring to you.
