Eternity Ring Inside Design: Comfort vs. Cleanability
QuestionHi Les,
I've been looking for a channel set eternity ring, and have noticed that some are closed and smooth on the inside while others are open (with holes, or open metal designwork on the inside). I find the "closed inside" rings feel much more comfortable for me to wear, but it has been explained to me that the "open backed" rings are better for jewelry cleaning reasons, and therefore the superior ring. However, I've seen so many "closed back" eternity bands on the market, is this really true? (That open back eternity bands are better than closed back ones.) Are there other advantages or disadvantages I should be taking into consideration about this particular issue?
Thank you for your insights!

AnswerElizabeth-
Dont make yourself crazy about this, there is very little difference between them, are the diamonds round or princess cut in the ring? the correct and proper way to mfg. a diamond ring is for "clean outs" in the back of the ring where the diamonds are set. This allows for dirt and polish after the final process of mfg. the ring to escape so there is no black polish or other dirt to hinder the brilliance of the diamonds. If you have princess cut diamonds the dirt may not escape in a closed back since the diamonds are set so close to eachother the dirt may not escape from the top either.....if you have round diamonds, the dirt will clean out from between the diamonds since there is a slight space between the rounds....either way, get a ring with good stones that have excellent cut proportions to allow light to reflect back to you eye
good luck
