Identifying a Vintage 15K Gold Brooch: History & Value

HI - I acquired a gold broach today and was curious about the stone and mounting. Looks like the mounting reads 15CT which I assume is 15K gold. The 70 year old lady that I acquired it from said her great grandfather was working as an engineer on the Suez canal. I think this was around the 1850's and one of the workers was from China and made or sold the broach to him. It about 2" long and weighs about 13 penntweights. Photo's are attached. Can you tell me anything about it?

I am not sure what to say other than my first impression of the stone is that from these pictures it looks like some kind of ore. Maybe silver and gold in quartz. I think you are probably right about the mark on the gold.
I wish I could say more but it is hard for me to tell from those pictures.
