Restoring Gold: What to Do When Your Gold Jewelry Loses Color

Question
i recently bought a channel band in gold with diamonds. I saw on the inside it
was stamped 14k. I dipped it in silver cleaner by accident and the gold is gone.
Was i robbed? He never said it was gold plated. I adore the ring in gold. Can it
be restored. How do i do this? It looks like a silver band now. Your advice
would be appreciated.

Answer
Hello Jeannie - I would take the ring back to where you bought it. Real 14K gold will not lose it's color in cleaning. Perhaps it was gold wash on sterling or gold plated. There is no way to restore the gold finish without having it replated which can be quite expensive. Hope this helps and that you can get your money back from the seller.
