QuestionQUESTION: I have a plain gold ring (might be some other type of metal). Two jewelery stores thought it was from England, and could not confirm it was gold. There are markings on the inside of the ring.
The three Markings are --
-- "O8" (inside a rectangle w/ the corners chopped off
-- "three crowns"(one crown on the top, and 2 crowns below it (like a pyramid)
-- G (in a rectangle w/ the corners chopped off)
On the internet I've seen a Sweden mark with 3 crowns, but the Sweden marking had 2 crowns on top, then one crown on the bottom - this is just the opposite.
Any information you could give is greatly appreciated!
Thank you.

QUESTION: Here is the photo you requested.
Thank you!
AnswerVery interesting indeed! I have never seen such a marking on precious metal jewelry. Although it remarkably matches the Swedish marks & their systems, no Swedish jeweler (or national for that matter) would mess up the 3 Golden Crown Mark because it is their National Amblem (think of the Bald Eagle in USA)
Though, the other marks strikingly match the Swedish hallmarking norms & would suggest a Swedish origin & metal being Gold.
1. O8 - represents the year.
2. 3 Crowns - 1 crown below 2 others would be the Swedish mark & without a S or P, it would mean gold, but this two on one Crown Mark I am not sure of.
3. G That represents the city code of Sweden.
The reason why many jewelers would think this to be of English origin is simple, Engalnd has used "single" Crown hallmarking since maybe the late 18th century.
I'd suggest you get it tested at a nearby gemstone testing laboratory to be sure. They may not be able to tell you the origin, but they'll give you a definitive answer on the metal (whether its Gold or not).
Hope that helps.
Feel free to ask if you have any other query.
